Holmes was following the orders he was given from the first mate. Holmes thought himself to be a good sailor and understood that the captain of the ship that sand had left the first mate in charge telling then to listen to him as they would listen to the captain himself. Although, Holmes heard the first mate order to throw the passengers off the life boat, he was responsible for his actions just as the first mate was responsible for shouting the order. He carried out the action and therefore the consequences that come without the action are his as well. It may seem unfair but if Holmes had really felt that the first mate's orders were that crazy he could have chosen to react differently.
For my research for this paper, I used online resources. I looked up all the cases on the list that was given with the assignment and printed out the ones that were related to my thesis statement. Then I started writing my paper. As I wrote, I chose quotes that were relevant and meaningful to the point I was trying to get across. Once my thesis statement was reviewed and confirmed by the teacher. I typed a final drafted and reread some of the cases that I chose to use, adding some more information from them. I got an A!
MLA resources were something I learned in high school. But they made much more sense to me coming from this book. I needed a refresher on how to use the quotation marks and how to omit words when I was quoting only a partial sentence. Citing sources has also been hard for me. I have a hard time figuring out what I need to create a correct citation. The book is thorough and shows my examples, but I think I am hopeless. Sources help to validate and confirm your work in an essay and I think it is important to monitory what sources you choose to quote in your essays.
I did my essay on violence in salinas. I had a hard time finding articles that I didn't have to pay for or that were recent. There were a few sites that offered statistical information regarding Salinas, such as the population size, and the number of murders and violent crimes committed last year, which was helpful. This essay was more based off of my personal experiences with crime in Salinas.

I don't think that immigrants should have the right to vote in a country where they are not citizens. If they do not wish to become citizens of the country where they live and work, they should have no need or want to participate in the making of government policies and law passing. There are pertain privileges that should be left to citizens only and I believe that voting is one of those privileges. Illegal immigrants have no right to even be IN the country, let all vote in the country's elections.

Wilson brings up good points about stricter gun laws. Most of the guns that due pose a threat to society are those that are stolen or are obtained in an illegal fashion, so stricter gun laws are only gone make it harder for law abbinding citizens to are themselves against those individuals who carry firearms illegally. He also states that police officers aren't likely to frisk suspicious looking people for guns because of the risk of getting sued. caugh the people at are carrying guns illegally should be their main concern, not getting sued or being accused being harassed by a police officer. Wilson also makes good point about science playing a key role in pin pointing who is carrying a weapon or not. A metal detector ray or gun could be very useful in the field for patrol officers, this way the ray can determine whether a person has metal on their person or not. I agree with Wilson that stricter gun laws won't do the trick to keep guns off the street, harsher laws for those who possess guns illegally are.
